The Overlay Slide is a slide with no text field options. Its best use cases are if you want to add a static element over several slides, such as lines or a logo.
Main Example
Basic usage
The ”Overlay slide” has general controls for audio, logo visibility, and video starting point. In addition, it also has a custom duration setting. The value you input – in ms – in the custom duration field defines for how long from the video starting point that the ”out point” will occur. For instance: If you don’t change anything in the video starting point settings and input 15000 as custom duration the video in the player slide will play from the absolute start to 15 seconds. If you set the video starting point at 00:15 as the video starting point and 14000 as the custom duration it will play between 15 and 29 seconds. So you can pinpoint a specific part of the video that you want to play.
Fine Print: You also have the option to add a "Fine Print" (300 characters) at the bottom of the slide. The text size is Tiny but can be scaled between 10-100%. The placement of the Fine Print will adapt to the placement of the logo (if the logo is at the bottom of the slide, the Fine Print will move to the top of the slide). Text Alignment - Left, Center, Right.
Asset and Animation Settings:
Asset:
This is where you choose the actual asset to have in that spot. An image or video file.
X-position: Left, Center or Right.
If you are not using Advanced positioning, you can place the asset on any position.
Y-position: Top, Center or Bottom.
If you are not using Advanced positioning, you can place the asset on any position.
Animate Opacity:
Turn this on if you want to animate the opacity of the asset.
Animation: Fade in- and out animation. This determines if the asset is faded in and out, either one of them or not at all.
In-Animation Duration (ms):
Set the length of the duration for the in-animation. This is the time it takes for the asset to complete its chosen build.
Out-Animation Duration (ms):
Set the length of the duration for the out-animation. This is the time it takes for the asset to complete its chosen build.
Advanced Position:
When you turn on the Advanced Position setting, this overrides the basic position for the asset and allows you to input absolute pixel values for the asset's top left corner.
So the X-position controls where on the x-axis, in relation to the left edge of the canvas, the left side of the asset will be. The value is expressed in pixels, meaning that a value of 100 means that the asset's left edge will be 100 pixels from the left side of the canvas.
The Y-position controls the placement of the asset's top edge in relation to the top side of the canvas. So a Y-position of 300 means that the top edge of the asset will be 300 pixels from the top edge of the canvas.
Scaling Settings:
When you turn on Scaling Settings, you can control the scale of the asset. By default, it takes its original pixel size. This means that an asset that is larger than the canvas will only be visible in part. And conversely, a smaller asset will not cover the canvas.
With the Scaling Settings, you have different options. If you choose "Original Size" this will show the image in its original size with the position settings you have made.
If you choose "Fit to canvas," the asset will scale in the same manner as background assets do, and scale the shortest edge to the canvas dimension and thereby fill the proportions. It will use the position you have set, though.
If you choose Exact Proportions, you can set the max width and height of the asset, which will scale to the measure it meets "first." We never change the proportions of an asset to protect its integrity. Combine this with Advanced Position, and you can place an asset anywhere in any size on the canvas.
Step-by-step:
Step 1: Create a storyboard with one slide (Overlay slide) and add your static element
Step 2: Create your storyboard with all the slides, text, assets etc you need. Generate a full video and download it.
Step 3: Open your first storyboard and add your downloaded video as an asset. Generate a full version.
Final result:
The position for the inline asset is 100% flexible allowing you to customize your video even more. The overlay slide also offers custom duration in milliseconds so that you can adjust the slide duration to the length of your video asset. You can also save it as a module for you to use when needed.
