The "Layer Slide" slide type is at heart an efficient text slide but with a lot of extras if you need to create distinctive looks. So apart from the text field, this slide has six different inline assets fields, which all can take the full canvas size and be used in a multitude of ways.
This slide is perfect when you want to build templates and reusable modules for Quick Insert since you can create quite complex and bespoke looks that are easily deployed.

Basic usage
The "Layer Slide" slide has two text fields, Main Text and Caption Text – Choose Font Size - Tiny, Small Alternate, Small, Medium Alternate, Medium, Large Alternate, Large, X-Large Alternate, X-Large, Huge Number, and Huge. The default font size for Main Text is Large and for Caption the default text size is Small.
The font size decides what font that will be picked up from the theme. When changing slide type, the text from one default text field will be carried over to another.
Depending on the Textbox Width and Text size, you can fit different amounts of text into the slide.
Fine Print: You also have the option to add a "Fine Print" (300 characters) at the bottom of the slide. The text size is Tiny but can be scaled between 10-100%. The placement of the Fine Print will adapt to the placement of the logo (if the logo is at the bottom of the slide, the Fine Print will move to the top of the slide). Text Alignment - Left, Center, Right.
General Settings
Duration: 1 - 30 seconds.
Main Text Settings
Text Alignment: Align the text field to the left, center, right or Justified.
Main Text Plate: Toggle on and the text position will shift to allow for padding on the plate, and the left/right edge of the plate will line up with the margins on the slide. The plate will always have a fade animation, regardless of the text animation you have set for the field. The plate size will always follow the text content unless you toggle on "unified width".
Text Animation In/Out: Choose if the text field animates in and/or out. Using these controls allows you to chain slides with the same text content.
In-Animation Type: Choose if the animation should have a bounce effect or not. Choose between Type-in and Slide & Fade.
Out-Animation Type: Choose between Type-out and Slide & Fade.
Caption Text Settings
Text Alignment: Align the text field to the left, center, right or Justified.
Caption Text Plate: Toggle on and the text position will shift to allow for padding on the plate, and the left/right edge of the plate will line up with the margins on the slide.
Slide Settings
Spacing: When checked, this control adds a spacing between the Main Text and Caption, 0-200. 42 is the default setting.
Undefined Plate Widths: Set the plates to be the same width regardless of text length. Enabled by default.
Use full width for textbox: Adjust the width of the text box to use all available width. In a 16x9 format this will change the width that the text can flow before a linebreak. If unchecked the textbox will keep it's width no matter the format.
Horizontal Content Position (X): Left, Center, Right, and Fixed.
Fixed Horizontal Position (X): You can also input a fixed Horizontal Position if you want to precisely place the text, which is useful when repeating slides. You do this by choosing "Fixed" in "Horizontal Content Position" and then adding a value in "Fixed Horizontal Position" (0 = at the left side of the canvas).
Animation Settings
The Animation Controls for the assets are as follows:
In-Animation Duration (ms)
Set the length of the duration for the in-animation. This is the time it takes for each asset to complete its chosen build. 400 is the default setting.
In-Animation Build Order
You can choose the order in which the assets animate in.
Forward: asset 1-6.
Reverse: Asset 6-1.
In-Animation Build Behavior
If you choose to build "With Previous," all timing originates at the beginning of an animation, meaning that if you choose "With Previous" and have a Stagger time of 0, all assets start the animation at the same time. So you can control a "fanning" effect if you choose "With previous" with a staggering time shorter than the Duration.
If you choose "After Previous" the timing originates at the end of the previous animation, meaning that the previous asset will finish its animation before the next one starts.
In-Animation Stagger (ms)
The stagger time offsets the start of the next animation, and depending on what behavior you have chosen, it delays the next one from the beginning or the end of the previous asset's animation.
Out-Animation Duration (ms)
Set the length of the duration for the out-animation. This is the time it takes for each asset to complete its chosen build. 400 is the default setting.
Out-Animation Build Order
You can choose the order in which the assets animate out.
Out-Animation Build Behavior
If you choose to build "With Previous," all timing originates at the beginning of an animation, meaning that if you choose "With Previous" and have a Stagger time of 0 all assets start the animation at the same time. So you can control a "fanning" effect if you choose "With previous" with a stagger time shorter than the Duration.
If you choose "After Previous" the timing originates at the end of the previous animation, meaning that the previous asset will finish its animation before the next one starts.
Out-Animation Stagger (ms)
The stagger time offsets the start of the next animation, and depending on what behavior you have chosen, it delays the next one from the beginning or the end of the previous asset's animation.
The Asset Settings and animations
With the inline asset fields, that all support transparency and have animation settings, you can build very bespoke graphic looks for this slide, which can be very useful. Not least when building templates and partial storyboards for quick insert, when you can spend more time on honing the use of the slide type.
The inline assets all have the same characteristics, by default, they will use their actual size, and you can place them in x- and y-positions. They have a fixed layer order, Asset 1 being the topmost, and Asset 6 at the bottom.
You can set and combine animation for the assets – so you could combine x- and y-animation for a diagonal move. And you can combine that with opacity as well.
Make sure the duration of the slide is enough for all the assets to animate in and out.
For each asset, you have the following settings and options
Asset [1-6]
Asset (1-6) Type Selector: Choose between image, video as asset type, or None, Text, Plate, Circle.
Asset (1-6): This is where you upload your inline asset. It will accept both images and video.
Asset (1-6) Text: The text to display if asset type is set to text.
Asset (1-6) Text Font Size: Choose from Tiny, Small Alternate, Small, Medium Alternate, Medium, Large Alternate, Large, X-Large Alternate, X-Large, Huge Number, and Huge. Small is the default setting.
Text Alignment: Align the text field to the left, center, or right.
X-position: Use the slider to set the horizontal position of the Asset/Asset text/Plate/Circle.
Y-position: Use the slider to set the vertical position of the Asset/Asset text/Plate/Circle.
Fixed Positon
Toggle this on if you want to be able to place the asset (1-6) on an exact position in the slide.
X-position: 0 is the absolute pixel x-position on the canvas for the left edge of the asset. The value is expressed in pixels, meaning that a value of 100 means that the asset's left edge will be 100 pixels from the left side of the canvas.
Y-position: 0 is the absolute pixel y-position on the canvas for the top edge of the asset. So, a Y-position of 300 means that the top edge of the asset will be 300 pixels from the top edge of the canvas.
Size: Choose from Original size, Fit to Canvas, and Exact Proportions.
- Choose "Original Size" will show the image in its original size with the position settings you have made.
- Choose "Fit to canvas," and the asset will scale in the same manner as background assets do, and scale the shortest edge to the canvas dimension and thereby fill the proportions. It will use the position you have set, though.
- Choose "Exact Proportions" and you can set the max width and height of the asset, which will scale to the measure it meets "first." We never change the proportions of an asset to protect its integrity. Combine this with Advanced Position, and you can place an asset anywhere in any size on the canvas.
Width: Set the max width the asset can have in pixels when using Exact proportions.
Height: Set the max width the asset can have in pixels when using Exact proportions.
Asset (1-6) Shape Color: Choose any color from your theme or a custom one.
Asset (1-6) Opacity: Use the slider to set the opacity of the slide. 0-100, the default setting is 100.
In-Animation Duration Override (ms): Override the time (in ms) of the in-animations for this asset.
Out-Animation Duration Override (ms): Override the time (in ms) of the out-animations for this asset.
In-Animation Curve: Set the animation curve which the asset should use to animate in. Choose from Ease Out, Ease In, Ease Both, Cubic Out, Cubic In, Cubic Both, or Linear.
Out-Animation Curve: Set the animation curve which the asset should use to animate out. Choose from Ease Out, Ease In, Ease Both, Cubic Out, Cubic In, Cubic Both, or Linear.
Animation: This is where you choose if the asset animates in and/or out.
Animation Type:
- Choose "Smooth" if you want this particular animation to move to its final placement or state and not do an overshoot (a bounce).
- Choose "Bounce" if you want this particular animation to do a quick overshoot and then bounce back to its final state or position.
Animate Y-position
Turn this on if you want the asset to animate in and/or out from the slide on the y-axis. You can set the in-animation from the top, bottom, or Fixed and the out-animation to the top, bottom, or Fixed.
Animate Opacity
Turn this on if you want to animate the opacity of the asset from 0 to 100 and from 100 to 0.
Animation: This is where you choose if the asset animates in and/or out. Using these controls allows you to chain slides with the same text content.
Animate Scale
Turn this on if you want the asset to animate its scale from 0 to 100 and vice versa. This creates a growing effect. The effect always emanates from the absolute center of the asset.
Animation: This is where you choose if the asset animates in and/or out. Using these controls allows you to chain slides with the same text content.
Animation Type
- Choose "Smooth" if you want this particular animation to move to its final placement or state and not do an overshoot (a bounce).
- Choose "Bounce" if you want this particular animation to do a quick overshoot and then bounce back to its final state or position.
Scale & Rotate
Choose between (Disabled), Clockwise, and Counter-clockwise if you want the asset to do a small scale and rotate after it has animated in. This can create an attractive "floating" effect. Per default this is Disabled.
