The "Color Plate Slides" are a few different slides that share a common design feature – the color plate that takes up part of the viewport on the slide. This means that you could – if you want to – make up a complete video with just these slides, but more likely you will find a use for them together with all the other slides.
But since they share this common feature, they also share the functionality of the color plate and the concept behind it. We wanted the color plate slides to be very useful when you want to put some extra focus on the text and perhaps use the background assets as more of a "wallpaper" than what is usual for Video Studio slides.
The color plate will default to the theme color "Primary" with an 80% opacity – which makes the background asset visible but very vague. Both the color and the opacity is, of course, editable from the Color segment in the side panel.
When using these slides you get a lot of flexibility in how the color plate itself behaves between the slides depending on what options you choose. You can let the color plate animate in and out on every slide – on the right or on the left. But even better for the outcome of the movie would be to let the plate be static by turning the animation in and out behavior off for color plate slides that are surrounded by other color plate slides. In that scenario, you would have text animation in and out and can do whatever you want with the background – but the color plate will be fixed and that will create even more of this focus on the text itself.
When using these slides and tying them together with a smart setup of animation behavior – add all the slides you need to the storyboard and control your behavior settings when your script is finished. Watch the embedded video for a couple of examples of usage. You can read about the "Color Plate – Simple Slide" and the "Color Plate – List" on these links.
Color Plate – Quote Specifics
The "Color Plate – Quote" has two text fields, the Quote text, and the Description. The top of the Quote text will anchor to the same horizontal line as the quote sign on beside the plate.
The quote sign is independent in animation and color from the plate so you can do some pretty advanced combinations.
Behavior and usage
All colors can be changed in color settings.
There is no styling applied to the background asset as default.
Credit text is derived from the credit field in the asset browser. Since all assets in Story Engine are their instance, you could use the credit field for additional information as well, such as a source reference or other. This field is not directly editable from the storyboard view. Instead, you access it through the asset browser’s detail view. You can turn off the credit text altogether from the storyboard side pane if you wish.
