The Storyboard Editor is where you bring your text to life. Not only is it packed with powerful editing tools, but you can also adjust other settings like the video format, add music or change the theme - in a click.
But let's start with the essentials.
What you'll learn
- Swapping a slide for a different type
- Changing the size of the text
- Adjusting the duration of a slide
- Changing the colour of the text
- Making the slide background a colour
Swapping the slide for a different type
Storykit creates your videos using slides. A slide includes a background image/video clip, text and animations. Storykit automatically selects one based on the text you've written. But it's easy to swap it for another.
- Click on a slide, and open the side panel.
- Open the dropdown menu under Slide type at the top of the side panel.
- Hover over a slide to preview how the animations will look in the square box next to the name.
- Select the slide you want to use in your slide.
In the dropdown menu, slides are sorted into categories with a short description to help you find the best match for the job. There's a slide for everything, from lists and timelines to slides where you can play other videos or layer images on top of each other.
Tip! Watch a preview of all the slides in the Slides section.
Changing the size of the text
To save you time from lots of editing, Storykit has preset font sizes which look spot-on every time. You can quickly swap between the font sizes as well as edit the text in the Storyboard editor.
Each slide provides different font size options, but the basics to change them are the same:
- Click on a slide, and open the side panel.
- Highlight and copy the text you want to change.
- Delete the text in the text field.
- Switch on the toggle for the font size you want to use.
- Paste in the text and see a preview on the slide.
Each text field has different character limits, so if you choose to make your text larger, you might have to trim down the text.
Tip! Instead of trimming your text, duplicate the slide and add the rest in the next one. Click Duplicate at the top of the side panel.
Adjusting the duration of a slide
The more text you have on a slide, the longer it will take the viewer to read it. But changing the duration that each slide appears in your video is easy.
- Click on a slide, and open the side panel.
- Scroll down the side panel to Duration.
- Move the slider to the right to increase the number of seconds.
Changing the colour of the text
Sometimes you'll want to switch the colours of the text to make it easier to read over the background. You can pick another colour from the range you set up in your theme to stay on brand or choose a custom colour.
- Click on a slide, and open the side panel.
- Scroll down the side panel to the Colour tab.
- Find the label for the text block you want to change and open the dropdown menu below it.
- Select a new colour. If you choose Custom, enter a HEX code in the text field or click on the colour swatch to enter an RGB code.
Tip! You can switch your dark or light-themed logos on each slide, too, if they become difficult to see over the background. Scroll down to Logo settings in the side panel and upload an alternative to improve visibility.
Making the slide background a colour
Text on a plain-coloured background is a great way to make parts of your text stand out alongside slides with images or video clips. You can choose to emphasise one of your brand colours or pick a custom colour.
- Click on the bar below a slide and open the Group side panel.
- In the Colour Settings tab, open the dropdown menu.
- Select a new colour. If you choose Custom, enter a HEX code in the text field or click on the colour swatch to enter an RGB code.
Tip! You can also switch the background image/video clip to another asset instead of making it a colour. On the bar below the image, click Change Asset and quickly add a new one.
